Generation Citizen Curriculum Framework We believe that systemic change requires political participation. This is different than broad-based civic engagement or volunteer service. The GC curriculum provides a step-by-step guide to teaching political engagement.
Generation Citizen Lesson Plan: Identifying Community Issues The lesson plan allows students to brainstorm community issues using multiple resources such as observations, interviews, social media etc. They then engage, debate, and build a solution collectively.
Generation Citizen Classroom Activities The classroom activities include building a classroom constitution which gives students a sense of how democracy works; local government's role in a citizen's life; and how students can determine civic identity.
Building an Evidence-Based Practice of Action Civics: The current state of assessments and recommendations for the future, CIRCLE 2013 Abstract: Over the past two decades, in both youth development and civic education, leaders have adopted increasingly strength-based, action-centered approaches to teaching civic and leadership skills. A new community of researchers and practitioners, the National Action Civics Collaborative (NACC), has recently emerged epitomizing this new approach. This Collaborative seeks to advance “action civics,” which draws on both youth development and civic education.
